An Ōuruhia Model School Learner is a Thinker because we value curiosity, critical thinking and creativity.

An Ōuruhia Model School learner is Independent because we value self-management, initiative and BEST effort.

An Ōuruhia Model School learner is Caring & Sharing because we value respect, co-operation, diversity, responsibility, commitment and service to others.

An Ōuruhia Model School learner has a "Can Do" Attitude because we value perseverance, resilience, determination and enterprise.


 

Within the NZ Curriculum the Board has the following priorities for students:

1. Language and Languages Develop the ability to learn, observe and practice oral, written and visual forms of language.
2. Mathematics Calculate, estimate and reason logically.
3. Science Develop an understanding of aspects of the world around them and beyond.
4. Technology Develop an understanding of how a variety of technologies are used.  Also, to use a suitable process for problem solving.
5. Social Sciences Learn how people live and meet their needs.
6. The Arts Develop an appreciation of other people's art and music and develop skills for self expression.
7. Health and Physical Wellbeing Learn to take responsibility for their own health and physical fitness and the well being of others and enjoy games and teamwork.

 

Ōuruhia Model School students have the opportunity to learn to play sports with expert coaching from Canterbury Hockey, Canterbury Softball, Mixx Korfball, Canterbury Cricket, Canterbury Basketball teams: Mainland Pouākai and Canterbury Rams, and other sports.

Students are encouraged to develop skills for social interaction through participation in sport, public speaking, drama, music and class discussion.

By the time students have completed Year 8 at Ōuruhia Model School, they will have completed a wide range of learning experiences.
