Ouruhia School is your local school. We have been in Turners Road for over 100 years, and continue to be a place that our children, parents and staff all love. Visitors always tell us what a pleasure it is to be at Ouruhia… our children love learning, achieve well, care for each other, and enjoy getting stuck in to the wide range of rich experiences we provide. Browse some of the photos on this site and you will get the idea! We believe that it is essential to keep that "wow" factor, and fun, in schools. We want kids to be as enthusiastic about learning at 12 years old as they were when they started school at 5 years old. Too often our schools kill the excitement for kids, under pressure to meet assessment targets and demands of record keeping. But the fact is, kids learn better when they want to, when they are engaged and challenged, and can pursue at least some of their personal interests. When they are excited by learning, show curiosity and initiative, and keep the learning going at home ("any time, any place"), we know we are on the right track. We often hear about kids at home excited about learning and wanting to keep doing more. I am very passionate about the performing arts, and have a lifelong (amateur) interest in musical theatre, singing and playing instruments, which I like to share with my children at school. The Arts (Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Art) and Science are perfect vehicles for stimulating those INDEPENDENT, THINKER & CAN-DO qualities. And they are fun! We are certainly blessed with talent at Ouruhia, and as a school we strongly believe in developing and nurturing those talents, showing our kids how rich and satisfying life is, built around a core of music, drama, dance and visual art. Parents, children, teachers…we invite you to join us on our pathway of learning, our ara tupu.
