At Ouruhia our children love learning, achieve well, care for each other, and enjoy getting stuck in to the wide range of rich experiences we provide.
Our motto is "Whāia te Mātouranga hei Oranga mō Koutou - Learning for Life and Making it Count." We want learning to be a lifelong desire and pursuit, and we want our tamariki to develop the skills and attitudes that will take them successfully on that journey. We believe that it is essential to keep that "wow" factor, and fun, in schools. We want kids to be as enthusiastic about learning at 12 years old as they were when they started school at 5 years old. Too often our schools kill the excitement for kids, under pressure to meet assessment targets and demands of record keeping. But the fact is, kids learn better when they want to, when they are engaged and challenged, and can pursue at least some of their personal interests. We want them to be excited by learning, show curiosity and initiative, and keep the learning going at home ("any time, any place").
